Stainless Steel E-Clips: The Low-Profile Grooved Fasteners
Stainless steel E-clips—frequently designated as DIN 6799 or grooveless retaining rings—are three-pronged fasteners that snap radially onto a shaft. Named for their distinct “E” shape, the three internal prongs make continuous contact with the bottom of a groove to provide a wide, secure shoulder for retaining assemblies.
Unlike standard circlips, they do not require specialized holes or installation pliers; they can be pushed directly onto a shaft from the side.
Common Applications
E-clips are the unsung heroes of moving mechanical linkages:
- Automotive Linkages: Securing throttle cables, brake pedals, and wiper mechanisms.
- Office Equipment: Holding printer rollers, gears, and scanning beds in precise alignment.
- Power Tools: Locking internal gears and rotating components onto small-diameter shafts.
- Appliance Design: Securing internal shafts in washing machines, blenders, and tumbling mechanisms.
